HOW TO AVOID WASTING WATER

In hot countries like southern Europe, growers often complain about not having enough water for their cultures, yet they continue to flush liters of it every single time they use the closet.. Let’s calculate roughly, for a person using the toilet 8 times in a day and flushing maybe 5 liters each time, that’s 40 liters, or in a year about 14’000 liters of wasted water for just one single person!

The solution came from true (genuine) ecologists and was put into practice by open-air concerts organizers, who provide dry toilets on sites not having running water.. It’s very simple to install and use, here is a home unit for a single person, and below a bigger one for several users. It basically works like a cat litter box, but without the smell since every ‘commission’ gets covered by a layer of wood chips (or whatever organic material), and then the bag is periodically removed and replaced whenever it’s full.

A dry toilet can be built in a few hours (we made these two ourselves): assembling the box, sewing the oval hole in the upper plate, adding the top cover plus a bin underneath, and you’ll be ready to save thousands liters of water without sacrificing your comfort..
